Some of our participants had the pleasure of learning about the sari, its decoration, and design for our Textile Project. We visited Botanic Gardens with our talented volunteer photographer Dalyce Wilson. Participants learned from each other how to wear a sari and some of the history behind the patterns, significance of colours and the different tying methods.
This has inspired our participants immensely and they are already working on individual designs and sewing projects. We will also learn about fabric from the different parts of India. Each area creates a specific fabric and embroidery, which can only be purchased there, and is worn everyday by the local women in the community. This is a great way of creating an identity for the women of the community. People travel from all over India to buy certain types of material specifically.
