A selection of local community groups will explore heritage of Mackies and Sons and its links to India. Mackies was one of the biggest companies in Northern Ireland. They had a huge number of employees, some of which went to India to set up factories and train workers. These factories mainly processed jute in Calcutta.
The group will research textile factories in Northern Ireland and India, examining culture and fabrics along the way. We will benefit from expereinced facilitors who take us on walking tours, show us Indian fabrics and educate us about Northern Ireland's famous textile industries.
